In six days this week, the price has risen by about 1.81 rupees per liter of gasoline, while the rate of diesel has risen by almost Rs 1.85 per liter. The incessant price hike has been criticized by the opposition. Congress has even demanded an immediate reduction in taxes to ease the burden on the common man. However, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan told parliament on Wednesday that the government is not considering a reduction in the excise duty to cool rates from their all-time highs.

Gasoline and diesel prices vary from state to state, due to various taxes collected by the central government and the corresponding state government. In Delhi, the Center offsets Rs 32.98 per liter from the price of gasoline, while local government sales tax or Value Added Tax (VAT) constitutes Rs 19.55. Meanwhile, the corresponding amounts for diesel are Rs 31.83 and Rs 10.99, respectively
